Premier Tony Wakeham says he is pleased with how meetings went with Quebec officials on the MOU yesterday, but did not offer much detail.
Following a meeting of Eastern Canadian Premiers and New England Governors, Quebec energy minister Christine Frechette described the MOU as an “interesting balance” for the two provinces, but if this province seeks changes, they will too.
Following that news conference, the two provinces went into private meetings specifically about the MOU.
Wakeham says he hosted Frechette for a “high level discussion,” but there is still “lots of work to do.”
The premier maintains a neutral tone, and does not budge when asked what he agrees or disagrees with in the deal.
“The challenge is to make sure that it is the best opportunity for Newfoundland and Labrador. We’re talking about generations being impacted by this deal, so it’s very important that we get it right.”
