Judicial Recount Upholds Election Result in Topsail-Paradise
The provincial government can now forge ahead with a clear, but razor-thin majority, in the House of Assembly.
Paul Dinn’s victory in Topsail-Paradise was maintained after a judicial recount that wrapped up in court.
Liberal Dan Bobbett challenged the results after some discrepancies were found.
In the end, Paul Dinn’s 102 vote lead grew to 106 after the ballots were counted in the courtroom.
“It was Just Horrendous:” St. Mary’s Fish Plant Destroyed by Fire
The fish plant in St. Mary’s has been destroyed by a fire.
Pictures and videos posted to social media show smoke and flames billowing up into the dark night sky, and firefighters braving strong winds and rainy conditions trying to douse the blaze.
Mayor Steve Ryan, voice choking with emotion, says the situation is “very difficult.”

Heavy Rain Results in Some Flooding in the Metro Region
Heavy rain this morning resulted in some flooding on Water Street West in St. John’s.
Drivers were warned about standing water in the area of the Railway Coastal Museum.
It resulted in sizeable damage to the breakwater in Trepassey.

Premier Paints Grim Picture of NL’s Finances in State of the Province Address to BoT
The premier is painting a sobering picture of the province’s fiscal situation.
Premier Tony Wakeham delivered his State of the Province address to the Board of Trade.
Wakeham says last year the previous government forecast a deficit of $372 million, but revised that figure to $626 million by the time the election was called in September.

A fundraiser in support of an organization that helped people affected by a series of devastating wildfires in this province has exceeded fundraising expectations.
The We Stand on Guard Once More benefit concert raised more than $1.2-million in support of the Canadian Red Cross.
The lineup included performances by Buddy Wasisname & the Other Fellers, Shanneyganock with Bud Davidge, and The Ennis Sisters.

Serial Rapist Sofyan Boalag Dead; Coroner To Determine Cause
One of, if not the most notorious rapist in this province has died while in custody on the mainland.
Forty-six-year-old Sofyan Boalag died, though it’s not yet clear how.
He was incarcerated at the medium security Bath Institution near Kingston, Ontario at the time.
