A well-known and respected surgeon and member of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador, has passed away.
Dr. Falah Maroun was born in Lebanon and came to Newfoundland in the 1960s for what was supposed to be a brief locum. He decided to stay, and became the province’s Chief of Neurosurgery, a position he held for the next four decades.
Premier Tony Wakeham says he was deeply saddened to learn of Maroun’s passing, calling him a “true pioneer of medicine in Newfoundland and Labrador whose legacy will be felt for generations.”
Former premier and fellow surgeon Dr. Andrew Furey says Maroun’s impact “cannot be measured in years or titles, but in lives saved…and skills passed on.”
