A sharp-eyed concerned citizen helped take a suspected drunk driver off the road on the Avalon Peninsula on Tibb’s Eve.
The 55-year-old man was already under strict conditions barring him from operating a motor vehicle on a highway and being under the influence of alcohol outside his home. A person who spotted Daniel Gillingham in Whitbourne Tuesday afternoon called the RCMP. Police caught up with him on the parking lot of a fast food restaurant at about 2:30.
Officers charged him with impaired driving and having open liquor in a vehicle.
He lost his driver’s license, the vehicle was impounded, and he spent the night in jail.
