Longtime provincial MHA Tom Osborne is reflecting on making the leap to federal politics earlier this year.
Osborne was at one time the longest-serving MHA in the House of Assembly.
He retired in 2024, but last spring he decided to run federally in the Riding of Cape Spear, a seat which he would eventually win.
The biggest difference he has seen in federal politics vs provincial is that he is a “smaller fish in a much bigger bowl.”
Osborne says he loves the work he is doing as it is similar to what he did as an MHA.
However, Osborne does admit that there is one aspect that does play on his mind, and that is having to spend so much time away from home. He says his children are older now, and doing the travel is “much easier” now than it would have been even five years ago.
