Those who coordinate career and job fairs in this province say it’s becoming more critical for employers to get out and try to recruit young workers before they graduate high school.
The Rotary Club has been organizing a number of career and job fairs throughout the Avalon Peninsula, including one at Holy Spirit High yesterday.
Representatives from MUN, CNA, the trades and unconventional careers like music, live stream gaming and photography were on site to talk to students – many of whom are unsure about what they plan on doing after high school.
Robert Boychuk, who is with Rotary, says students look forward to speaking with companies and learning what options are available.
“What I’m hearing is in both the professional and the trades and other fields is that they need workers. The demand in the workforce is huge,” he told VOCM News.
“They’re looking for students who are interested in academic paths as well as internships, apprenticeships, and programs. And they’re trying to get those students involved but it can be a challenge, particularly if students are not aware of what’s out there.”
