A Gander pioneer who was there in the town’s infancy was recognized by the town council this week.
William Lambert was among those who helped build Gander airport.
He celebrated his 100th birthday this week.
The airport, which is on a plateau overlooking Gander Lake, was constructed in 1937, putting the town on the international aviation map.
The first airplane landed at Gander nearly 88 years ago – January 11th, 1938.
Lambert was presented with a plaque by Mayor Percy Farwell yesterday.
