An organizer of an initiative to recognize athletes and their achievements in the Bay St. George area is pleased with progress on the project so far.

Speaking on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, Hynes said for the last three years they have been working on a special project at the Stephenville Dome to showcase the achievements of local athletes.

He says in the lobby there are three banners put up for local athletes, as well as a section for all of the national and international events that have been held in the community. He says they have their retired hockey numbers and their Herder banners up in the arena as well. Elsewhere, they have sections celebrating 21 different sports, athletes of the year,  former broadcasters at the former CFSX radio station that used to be in the building, and a section for the minor hockey scholarship program.

Hynes says they also have plaques for people who are in a sports hall of fame, and a section for the sponsors of the project.
