Ottawa has set aside over $1.6-million in funding for climate adaptation projects in communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.
The funding is part of a larger $7.1-million pot of money, through something known as the Green Municipal Fund, for similar projects across the country.
Federal environment minister Julie Dabrusin says 25 communities in this province will receive funding, including Hare Bay, Ferryland, Pilley’s Island, and St. John’s.
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says the city received over $100,000 through the initiative last year, which was put towards a climate risk assessment and adaptation plan, and that work will be furthered this year.
He says this year’s funding will go towards the continued development of the climate adaptation plan.
