Government says it is committed to rebuilding homes on the fire-ravaged Conception Bay North Shore.
Finance Minister Craig Pardy says the plan is to “build back stronger.”
“The premier’s intent, that anybody without a home…will have a home at the end of this process. What that looks like, and how we roll that out whether through Newfoundland and Labrador Housing initiatives…is something that we’ve yet to determine.”
The province is also reviewing the current housing assistance subsidy for affected residents, set to expire on March 31.
The Temporary Housing Assistance Program was made available to those who lost their homes.
Forty-seven applicants are registered in the program, with 11 availing of rental or hotel accommodations.
Minister of Social Services Joedy Wall says an update is expected in the not-too-distant future.
“This is not easy, it’s very complex, it’s not an easy situation, but (residents) are not going to walk that road alone,” says Wall.
“We will be there. So that the program for housing assistance is currently under review and we will expect to release a timeline on that in the very near future.”
