Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s fate is in the hands of party faithful as they gather in Calgary this evening to decide his future.
Delegates vote this evening on whether to keep Poilievre – who narrowly lost the last federal election to Mark Carney’s Liberals, and even lost his own riding – as leader. However, it may turn out to be a moot excercise as there don’t appear to be any obvious alternatives.
The host of CTV’s Power Play, Vassy Kapelos, told Your VOCM Mornings that a “Plan B” is not immediately apparent.
“I think part of the reason why they may end up sticking with ‘Plan A” is because there isn’t a “Plan B.” We covered the downfall of Erin O’Toole, and the downfall of Andrew Scheer, and there wasn’t an obvious contender waiting in the wings, or trying to bring them down – except in the case of O’Toole where Poilievre actually had a lot to do with that.”
She says in this case a serious contender is absent, “and I think that’s part of the reason why he will garner enough support at least…to be able to say ‘I’m staying on.'”
