There will be no tax increases in the town of Paradise this year. Their 2026 budget was tabled earlier this week.
The residential mil rate has been maintained at 7.4, and the commercial mil rate sits at 11.5. There are no changes to water and sewer rates.
This year’s budget is $52-million, which the town calls a “significant increase” – largely due to insurance proceeds of about $4-million.
That money is the result of a fire at the town hall and depot last February.
The funds will be used to remodel the interior of the building – which will include modernizing workspaces, updating building features to current standards, improving accessibility features, and updating council chambers.
Those renos are expected to start in a few weeks.
As for the depot, the town will be building a new facility as the current one is limited in many ways. While the planning process for that is underway, council notes that it will require a financial investment – which will be continually reviewed to ensure it stays within budget.
Elsewhere in the budget, there’s money for permanent traffic calming measures in some key areas, new snow clearing equipment, a multi-year upgrade project on the Woodstock Lift Station, phase 1 design work for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and implementation of a new permitting system.
