The evacuation order for the town of Badger has been lifted, and there are several things residents need to keep in mind as they return home.
The provincial government says members of the RCMP, supported by NL Ground Search and Rescue, will be on site for traffic control purposes as people return.
The Pentecostal Church on the Buchans Highway will be open until 8:00 p.m. as a “welcome home” station, where information on how people can safely return to their homes will be available, as well as cleaning supplies.
Residents are being reminded to exercise caution when returning to their properties, as unseen dangers may be present. They say insurance companies will need to be contacted to discuss claim options, or to discuss issues due to mould.
The boil water advisory will remain in effect until the integrity of the system has been confirmed and water testing has been performed. Any water intended for consumption must be brought to a rolling boil for at least a minute.
Private wells will need to be properly disinfected and chlorinated, and water should not be consumed until properly tested.
