Premier Tony Wakeham is getting support from the leader of the federal NDP for raising concerns about the way in which Ottawa is handling the national pharmacare program.
Pharmacare agreements were previously signed with British Columbia, Manitoba, PEI and Yukon under former prime minister Justin Trudeau, but to-date Prime Minister Mark Carney has not indicated whether he intends to expand the program to include the other provinces and territories.
Wakeham wrote the PM indicating that the federal government has created an uneven playing field and using a “fractured” approach by allowing some provinces to access medications, and not others.
The NDP’s Don Davies says Carney has not been clear on whether or not his government intends to extend the national pharmacare program to other provinces.
