Canada is on the medal board at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, with Valérie Maltais capturing bronze in the women’s 3,000-metre long track speed skating event — the country’s first medal of the Games.
She skated in the third-to-last pairing and posted a time that matched the previous Olympic record. Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida won gold in front of the home crowd with a new Olympic record, while Norway’s Ragne Wiklund claimed silver after finishing just ahead of the Maltais.
The result marks her first individual Olympic medal and Canada’s fifth Olympic bronze in the women’s 3,000 metres.
