Municipal Affairs says it is aware of a staffing situation at the Sunnyside town office, and says the town is addressing the matter.
The town office was closed on February 3rd “until further notice.”
The department says it has been “actively engaged” with the Town of Sunnyside over the last year after the municipality requested in May of 2025 that a comptroller be appointed to help with financial matters.
Department officials say discussions have been held with council and staff about local governance and the duration of the work being carried out by the comptroller.
The department is not involved in the selection or hiring of municipal officials and staffing decisions – including recruitment – fall under the authority of council.
Municipal Affairs says it will continue to work with and support the town as required.
