Air Canada is suspending flights to Cuba due to ongoing aviation fuel shortages on the Caribbean island.
Air Canada announced today that in the coming days the airline with fly empty aircraft to Cuba to pick up some 3,000 customers already there and bring them back home.
The carrier says it made the decision following advisories issued by governments regarding the availability of aviation fuel at Cuban airports.
According to Air Canada, there are projections that there will be no commercially available aviation fuel at Cuban airports by February 10th.
Air Canada says it will tanker in extra fuel and make technical stops as necessary to refuel.
The airline is monitoring the situation to determine whether normal service to Cuba will resume.
