While the RCMP saw a substantial decrease in fatal motor vehicle collisions last year they are always striving for that number to be zero.
There were 15 fatal crashes in RCMP jurisdictions in 2025 – a nearly 50 per cent decrease from 2024.
Superintendent Paul Peddle says it is important for officers to have the proper training to detect dangerous and impaired driving, and educating the public about safe driving practices is also critical.
Peddle says he has been the one responsible with notifying families that their loved one has died as the result of a crash.
He says the memories of having to do that are burned into his brain, and they are always striving to reduce that devastation.
