There’s still no word on when the provincial government will table its budget for the coming year, but when it does it will be the latest a government has presented a budget since the COVID pandemic.
Between 2022 and 2025, the then-Liberal government tabled its budgets as early as March 21st, and as late as April 9th. In every instance, the financial blueprint was presented in the House of Assembly before the two-week Easter break.
The last time a budget was tabled later than that was in 2021 during the pandemic when the Liberals presented their fiscal plan on May 31.
As of now, there has been no confirmation from government as to when budget day will be, only comments from finance minister Craig Pardy in the legislature indicating it would be brought down “very soon.”
The House of Assembly is currently in the middle of a two week Easter break with proceedings set to resume on Tuesday, April 21.
Barring decision-makers taking the unusual step of interrupting that break, it is unlikely that a budget will be introduced before then.
