Premier Tony Wakeham has declared his “full confidence” in the minister of health following comments that aired on CBC Radio this week.
Questions about Minister of Health Lela Evans’ comments suggesting that people on the coast of Labrador sue her and government for failing to supply needed medical transportation services were raised in the House of Assembly.
Premier Tony Wakeham made it clear that he and government have confidence in the minister.
“Let me be perfectly clear, and tell the people of Newfoundland and Labrador that we have one of the best health ministers” Wakeham said to cheers from the government side. “And I have full confidence in my minister of health to deliver better health care to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Minister Evans says her comments were taken out of context.
“We have things in the works now, to solve the problems that eroded the health care services and access (to) health care services in northern Labrador and southern Labrador. We are taking steps, but in actual fact Speaker I hold myself to account.”
