The minister of health says a new MRI slated for Happy Valley-Goose Bay will serve as a recruiting tool for healthcare workers in central Labrador.
Funding for the MRI was announced in this year’s budget and the machine is expected later this year.
Minister Lela Evans says the decision to put one in Happy Valley-Goose Bay was not taken lightly.
“I realized that putting it in one community, such as Happy Valley Goose Bay, or if we put it in Lab West, that we would have people having to travel. But the travel is significantly cut down where people can actually access it quicker,” she said in the House of Assembly.
“For me, as minister of health, I believe it’s going to serve as a recruiting tool because it’s basically going to revolutionize how we can access health care in terms of the doctors and nurse practitioners being able to order MRIs here in Labrador.”
