Marking the unofficial start of summer, it’s one of the busiest weekends of the year.
The Victoria Day weekend, also known as the 24th of May or May 2-4, is when many flock to parks and campgrounds to enjoy time in the great outdoors.
The provincial government say ParksNL processed more than 6,400 reservations on April 22 when the province’s park booking system opened for the season.
Right now there are more than 9,400 reservations booked – a 19 per cent increase over the same period last year when ParksNL processed close to 8,000 reservations.
Jeff Brace, who lives in Paradise, says he and his wife have been camping in Pippy Park for years.
“We love it here,” Brace tells VOCM News. “We’ve been coming to this park now 23 years. We were actually the first ones in waiting for the gate to open!”
