There was much praise in the House of Assembly yesterday for Alex Newhook.
The St. John’s native scored the winning goal in OT of game 7 against the Buffalo Sabres Monday night, pushing the Montreal Canadiens to the Eastern Conference final with Carolina.
Liberal Leader John Hogan raised the matter at the beginning of Question Period yesterday with Premier Tony Wakeham, a Habs fan.

Liberal Leader John Hogan and Habs fan and Premier Tony Wakeham smile as they agree on Alex Newhook’s skill.
“Today is a very important day for Newfoundland and Labrador; we get to watch the Montreal Canadiens for another couple of weeks thanks to Newfoundland and Labrador’s very own Alex Newhook, we’re all so proud…Ole, Ole, Ole…while we don’t agree a lot, I ask the premier finally, is this something you will agree with me on?”
“I couldn’t agree more!” replied the Premier enthusiastically. “Not once, but twice he scored the winning goal in game 7!”
