The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary issued hundreds of tickets for speeding last week, including some for driving at speeds well above the posted limit.
Last week was Canada Road Safety Week, during which the RNC conducted targeted enforcement focused on things like speeding, distracted, and dangerous driving.
On two separate occasions, drivers were clocked at 160 km/h on the TCH near Corner Brook, and on Monday one driver was caught driving at 148 km/h along the Team Gushue Highway – which is an 80 km/h zone.
All of those drivers had their licences suspended and vehicles impounded.
In total, 525 tickets were issued, three impaired drivers were caught, 17 vehicles were seized, and 16 people lost their licence.
