A man has been charged after an eventful morning trying to give police the slip.

Officers on patrol on Merrymeeting Road tried to conduct a routine stop on a vehicle around 8:30 yesterday morning, however the driver took off at a high rate of speed.

Police did not pursue in the interest of public safety. Not long after, a call came in reporting said vehicle as stolen.

Later that day, officers downtown spotted the car backing out of a driveway and scrambled to block the vehicle in.

The 41-year-old man behind the wheel was arrested and charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, and possession of property obtained by crime.
