A recent survey shows that concerns are growing about the risk of addiction and financial loss caused by the profusion of sports betting in Canada – especially among young to middle-aged men.
New data from Angus Reid shows that three in ten Canadians asked say they are worried that someone they know has an addiction to sports betting.
That number rises to 39 per cent among those who bet themselves and 37 per cent among young men.
Of those who say they’re worried about someone in their life, 81 per cent of respondents say that person is male.
Thirteen per cent of Canadians asked say they’ve placed a sports bet in the last year, but the figure rose to one in five for men ages 18 to 54.
