Thousands of people on the island are without electricity this hour – from the metro region and other parts of the Avalon to the Burin Peninsula, central Newfoundland and the west coast.

It’s not known what has caused the disruption in service or how long the system will be down but indications are that things are returning to normal or will be so shortly.

Usually, the loss of power is engineered by the providers as a means to preserve security of supply.
