Over $45,000 has been raised to help get the Folk Arts Society back on its feet.
The money was raised during the Friends of the Festival fundraising concert at the Convention Centre last night, and will be used to pay down existing debt.
The society calls that a “critical step in ensuring a sustainable future” for them, their festival, and their cultural programming.
Interim president Jean Hewson says while there is still work to be done “the path forward now has fewer hurdles.”
The interim board and their volunteers are continuing work towards hosting a Folk Festival this year. Pending funding, the aim is to host a one-day event in Bannerman Park in August.
While things are still up in the air, a date of August 8th is being held should the event be able top proceed.
