Some experts are predicting this will be a bad year for mosquitos, and an entomologist says the reason is simple – more water.
Taz Stuart says he looks at two-week windows when it comes to mosquitos, and when there is more precipitation in the forecast there is a high likelihood that there will be more of the bugs around.
Stuart says larvicide programs will take place in public areas, but it’s important for people to address the amount of water in their backyards.
He warns that bodies of water are mosquito development sites, so people should drain, dump, or cover any water on their property. As well, they should fill in any areas where water could collect.
