Summer concert season is upon us and scammers are on the ready to take advantage of those eager to see their favourite performers.
RNC Constable Steph Myers is offering concert goers a few tips on what to watch for when it comes to online ticket scams so as to avoid having to file a police report.
She says the old adage that if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is, applies.
She says scammers target victims by posting messages on social media advertising tickets, or comment on posts offering tickets.
“Once the money is exchanged, the scammer will block the buyer, or disappear. You’re going to get ghosted, so we want to avoid that.” She says it’s important to check the event’s ticket resale policy, to make sure that tickets being resold remain valid, and that they can be transferred. “Make sure that you’re using a designated resale agent…or someone you know…don’t go on Marketplace.” She also advises against sending someone an etransfer unless you know them personally.
