Premier Tony Wakeham isn’t ruling out having a deal complete on Churchill Falls within the next few weeks but does say he is taking a more “conservative” approach to the process than his Quebec counterpart.
Quebec Premier Christine Frechette has been vocal in her stance that a deal will be reached “very soon.”
Wakeham hasn’t gone so far as to say that.
“Our negotiating teams are still at the table, progress is being made. But whether or not we finalize that and come to a final agreement, that’s to be determined,” said Wakeham
Frechette believes a deal could be reached in the coming weeks, and Wakeham doesn’t deny that could happen.
“I’m not saying we’re not weeks away…what I’m suggesting is that right now there’s still work to be done. Our teams are at the table, and they’re doing that work, and they’re making progress.” Wakeham said.
