The Minister of Social Services is very concerned about a situation in which two children from another province ended up in foster care in an abusive home in Newfoundland and Labrador for almost two years without any checks and balances.
Child and Youth Advocate Wilma MacInnis says there was no documented discussion between the two provinces that the children had been residing in Newfoundland and Labrador for two years.
She was critical of both provinces.
Police eventually were called in, and ended up laying charges for maltreatment of the children.
Minister Joedy Wall says his department is reviewing the findings and recommendations to find ways to strengthen supports and improve outcomes.
The Opposition Liberals would prefer that government take immediate action and implement all four recommendations made by the Advocate.
