Competitive cheerleading is gaining in popularity in the province, prompting Cheer Sport Sharks NL to expand its footprint.
The business is now offering programs across three different sites in Mount Pearl, St. John’s and Harbour Grace.
Owner Emily Chaytor says local interest has never been greater.
She thinks the dynamic nature of the sport is what is contributing to its growing popularity.
Chaytor says people come from different backgrounds, and they love cheerleading because it incorporates gymnastics, dance and friendship.
“It’s a team sport so you have to rely on your teammates. We always say it’s the ultimate team sport because we really need everyone there for the stunts to work.”
