The town of Bay Roberts has planted nine trees at the town’s community garden, in recognition of each of the mayors who have served the municipality since its incorporation 75 years ago.
Each of the commemorative trees includes a plaque outlining the years of service of each mayor starting with Robert J. Mercer – the first mayor of Bay Roberts – to the current mayor, Geoff Seymour.
A dedication ceremony took place on Saturday.
The town says the trees are one of a number of initiatives taking place to mark the town’s 75th anniversary.
Bay Roberts was also the beneficiary of trees recently gifted to communities and groups across the province to mark the 250th anniversary of the Presentation Sisters.
