The Canadian Heritage Minute recognizing Gander’s role in the response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be unveiled tomorrow.

As terrorist attacks unfolded in the United States on September 11, 2001, North American airspace shut down – leaving thousands of people stranded.

The way in which Gander, and other communities across Newfoundland and Labrador, opened their hearts and homes to total strangers has become the stuff of legend.

Earlier this year, a Canadian Heritage Minute was filmed in Gander to recognize that effort.

An event will be held tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gander International Airport, during which Historica Canada will host a screening of the piece.

The event is free, but advance registration is required to attend.
