The RCMP is raising public awareness over what is being called an “alarming” increase in fatal accidents in the province this year.
In RCMP jurisdiction alone, 14 people lost their lives in accidents between January 1st and July 15th. There have been more fatalities since that time.
Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey says while many of the collisions are still under investigation, no clear trend has been identified in terms of the cause of many of those fatal collisions.
He notes there are common factors that lead to such accidents, such as speeding, aggressive and distracted driving, and driving while impaired, but there are no common themes to report as of yet among the accidents this year.
