The Canadian Union of Public Employees is celebrating what it calls its greatest victory this Labour Day following last month’s labour dispute at WestJet.

Flights were cancelled in August, forcing travelers to scramble to find alternative arrangements.

While a disruption for passengers, CUPE NL President Sherry Hillier says getting a fair deal for flight attendants was a resounding victory for the union and its workers.

“The federal government stayed out of that, it was a big win for CUPE across the country and a good win for the unionized flight attendants at WestJet.”

Flight attendants at Air Canada’s regional carrier, Jazz, are in a similar dispute with their employer.
