A 35-year-old man is facing charges related to the theft of two vehicles, flight from police and assaulting a police officer. It all stems from a police investigation that spanned from Lewisporte to Gander and ended in Musgrave Harbour last week.
RCMP in Lewisporte were alerted to the theft of a vehicle around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2nd.
The same vehicle struck a moose near Jonathan’s Pond early the following morning, but the suspect fled the scene on foot. A passerby who attempted to help was able to give police a description of the man involved.
A short time later police were contacted about a pickup stolen from a parking lot in Gander. Because the pickup was equipped with a location app, RCMP were able to track it to Fredrickton in Gander Bay where it rammed a police vehicle before speeding away.
The truck was later found abandoned in Musgrave Harbour, prompting a police search.
A police dog and drone were brought in to track the suspect who was found several km away and arrested without incident.
Thirty-five-year-old Devon Chezanne Hart is facing numerous charges including two counts of vehicle theft, assault of an officer with a weapon, dangerous driving, flight from police and driving while prohibited.

He was held in custody pending a court appearance.
