Four metro-area schools will see changes starting next school year, including one whose future is in limbo.
The changes are part of the opening of the school in Kenmount Terrace that will serve K-8 students starting in September.
The change means Larkhall Academy, a K-4, will not have students next year as the department weighs its options.
Leary’s Brook Junior High will shift from a grade 5 to 8 configuration to grades 4 through 8, while St. Andrews will reduce its capacity from grades K-4 to K-3.
The catchment areas for those schools will also change.
Education Minister Paul Dinn says he understands some frustration felt by parents expecting their child to go to a newer school.
“I can appreciate from parents in terms of what they’ve heard over the last number of years and what they were expecting. It’s unfortunate that the original plan can’t be carried out, but we are doing everything we can to make sure that the kids have a great experience in school.”
