The province’s third party says the government is not doing enough to help with recruitment and retention of teachers.
The calls come on the heels of the principal of Peacock Elementary stepping down, citing “high levels of understaffing and increased demands on the education system.”
NDP Leader Jim Dinn is calling for paid work terms for teachers as they enter the classroom, saying the move would incentivize teachers to enter the workforce.
He says the changes at Peacock Elementary come as “no surprise,” citing a similar strain across the province.
