Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced $2 billion in funding to retrofit some one million homes across the country to make them more energy-efficient.
Carney made the announcement in Sherbrooke, Quebec on Thursday.
Included is a new National Heat Pump Rebate to help up to 820,000 households switch to heat pumps from other forms of home heat.
Eligible below-median income households will receive a rebate of up to $10,000 on the purchase of an electric heat pump, while other eligible homes will receive $2,000.
Those rebates can be combined with existing provincial programs to help lower costs even further.
The federal government is also working with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Canada Infrastructure Bank to help the owners of apartment buildings retrofit 280,000 units over the next eight years.
