The Independent MHA for Mount Pearl-Southlands doesn’t buy Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s reasoning for rate increases later this year.
Hydro has applied to the Public Utilities Board for a rate increase of 7.6 per cent to take effect this fall.
Paul Lane says that he doesn’t believe Hydro’s rationale. He agrees with George Murphy’s contention that the prices just don’t add up.
Lane says it may be part of a plan to gradually increase rates in preparation of Muskrat Falls coming online. He calls on Hydro to be up-front if that is the plan, instead of blaming it all on oil prices, which he calls a “bogus” tactic.
