Overtime put in by nurses at the Janeway Children’s Hospital has doubled in a single year.
That’s according to the President of the Registered Nurses Union who has been discussing the problem publicly for years.
Debbie Forward says overtime punched by nurses at the four St. John’s hospitals has increased by 25 per cent over the last year.
But the worst problem is at the Janeway where she revealed last year that it’s not uncommon for nurses to punch 24 hour shifts.
She says there isn’t enough staffing to meet patient demand.
