The provincial government assures that the promised inquiry into the issue of Innu children in the child protection system will happen this year.
The Child and Youth Advocate is again putting the squeeze on government to do the inquiry, noting that it was promised three years ago and that such an inquiry is now more important than ever.
The recent death of an Innu youth by suicide and while in care further underlines the sense of urgency to get the process moving, according to advocate Jackie Lake Kavanagh.
Justice Minister Andrew Parsons told the Legislature yesterday that they are working with two other levels of government.
Parsons says they have been working with the Innu communities and the federal government. They have not yet decided on a commissioner but he says the inquiry will happen in 2020.
