Liberal Leadership candidates John Abbott and Andrew Furey agreed on several topics during a debate last night, but they both challenged one another on their experience.
During a Liberal Leadership debate hosted by CBC last night, Abbott brought up his experience of working in government, but Furey fired back telling Abbott that he brings a new set of skills to the table.
Furey and Abbott agreed that more support is needed for children in care, for accessibility to Labrador, and for the family physician shortage in the province.
They disagreed on topics such as the minimum wage, the provincial budget, and the number of nurses in the province.
Abbott admitted he is concerned about the development of the Liberal Leadership race against Furey.
He says his challenge in the campaign is that he feels like he is “shooting at shadows.” Abbott shares that he is not seeing specifics from Furey’s campaigns, leading them to not advance in the campaign as fast as they should be by the current date.
Furey fired back saying that Abbott already had his chance to make decisions. He says that the “double-edged sword” with experience is that Abbott already had his opportunity. Furey claims that Abbott is trying to be the “agent of change” even after his past work was not capitalized on.
