The capelin are still rolling in communities across the province.
According to the online tracker called ecapelin, large amounts of capelin were rolling in English Harbour near Port Rexton on Monday.
The ecapelin.ca initiative allows anyone to submit a photo of capelin rolling and some information on when and where the sighting took place, as well as any other observations. Once these photos are submitted, DFO scientists help to review the information to confirm that the photos are indeed showing capelin rolling.
People also gathered on the beach in Chance Cove to collect the fish in buckets.
Meanwhile, as the capelin move, so do the whales. Gatherall’s Puffin Whale Watch and O’Brien’s Whale and Bird Tours are having a busy year despite COVID-19 restrictions.
The pair joined forces for the start of their season on July 1 and have seen dozens of Humpback whales plus thousands of puffins so far.
