Parents are getting anxious as September approaches, wondering what the coming school year will look like.
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District says September 9 will mark the resumption of in-class instruction across the province, but little, if anything, is known about how that will work in a time of COVID-19.
Paul Dinn is the PC MHA for Topsail-Paradise – a district with some 4,500 school-aged children. He says there are far more questions than answers.
He says according to current health measures if someone in the classroom exhibits flu-like symptoms, the teacher has to isolate for two weeks. He also wonders about school bus drivers, who tend to be older, and what happens if drivers are not available.
Dinn says he’s fielding questions about child care, extracurricular activities, and custodial staff and the details haven’t been forthcoming.
