The strike deadline for ferry captains represented by the Canadian Merchant Service Guild has been extended until next week.
Provincial government officials were preparing in the event of possible strike action today.
Both sides have agreed to extend the potential start of strike action until Tuesday, August 25.
The union represents captains on five of the province’s intra-provincial ferry routes including Bell Island and Change Islands-Fogo Island.
