Newfoundland and Labrador has gone another day with no new cases of COVID-19 to report.
It has been 12 days since the last case was confirmed in this province, and two full days with no known active cases lingering.
To date, 29,899 people have been tested for the virus.
New Measures Coming
Effective Monday, the province is adjusting regulations around the use of masks and public gatherings.
Indoor gatherings which are organized by recognized businesses or organizations will be able to have a maximum of 100 people in attendance, or up to 50 per cent of the venue’s capacity. Similarly, outdoor gatherings can have a maximum of 100 people attending. Physical distancing must be maintained.
Organizers must also keep a record of everyone in attendance for two weeks following the event, in case contact tracing is required.
Otherwise, unofficial outdoor gatherings remain capped at 50 people.
Wearing a non-medical mask in public indoor places will also be required for everyone five years and older.
The Department of Health says the requirement is to protect vulnerable populations and schools as activity begins to increase, and in anticipation of a possible second wave of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador.
