Dominion workers are on strike after voting to reject the tentative agreement tabled between Unifor and Loblaw Companies Limited.
As the votes were tallied, workers aligned overwhelmingly against the offer. As of 10:01 p.m. on Saturday, Unifor members began strike action.
Unifor National President Jerry Dias says the decision was not made lightly. Workers have been without a contract since October 2019.
Dias says while there were some gains, the monetary offer fell short. Last month, Dominion clawed back the $2 an hour pandemic pay offered to some employees—Dias says just half of that was offered back over the life of a three-year contract.
Director of Corporate Affairs with Loblaw Atlantic, Mark Boudreau says “it is disappointing that this agreement was not accepted by our colleagues, despite being recommended by their union.”
